On the square in front of the Maa Ke Temple, the smoke from incense was swirling, and devotees were coming and going in a continuous stream. I walked into a small shop beside the temple and ordered a bowl of chicken wings. This is a common street food in Macau, cheap in price but with no compromise in taste.
The soup base of the chicken wings is made from chicken broth, with added mushrooms, black fungus, vermicelli, and various seasonings. The texture is rich. The soup is thick and has a faint pepper flavor. Taking a sip, it warms the stomach and heart. The ingredients are abundant, and each bite can offer a different taste, leaving a lingering aftertaste.
The store was filled with believers who came to pray. Some of them looked solemn, while others wore smiles. An aunt at the neighboring table was praying softly, hoping for the well-being of her family. This devout atmosphere made people involuntarily slow down and feel a sense of inner peace.
Following the boss’s recommendation, I ordered the Macau white beer. It has a rich fruity aroma and is perfect for summer. The taste is also very refreshing. It truly is the beer recommended by the locals of Macau. It’s really great.
As I left, the aroma of the shrimp dumplings lingered between my lips and teeth. The incense at the front of Maa Kei Temple was still burning vigorously, and the rich fragrance of that beer seemed to still linger in my heart.
